From an interview in February 2017: Gabrielle has a sweet, whimsical style that I greatly admire and appreciate. When we were students together I loved seeing what emerged from her pen. Not only is she talented with the technical side of painting and drawing, she has a knack for communicating emotion and feeling in her characters. I was very interested to hear what she had to say in my interview with her. K: Where did you grow up? When did you decide you were an artist? G: I
I'm usually the interviewer for these staff and student features, but I wanted to participate as an interviewee as well! Usually in this part of the blog entry I put an introduction of the person I'm interviewing. Well, my name is Kyla Wiebe, and I've been with Create for a total of three years so far. Here are my thoughts on the SoCAM, art, and serving God through art. Q: Where are you from? When did you become an artist? A: I grew up in a small town in Manitoba, Canada, tho
When I was a student in 2012 Ema was one of my SoCAM peers. He is a very cool guy, with a charming smile and a great personality. During his time at the SoCAM he met his future wife, Rachel, another artist. It just goes to show the neat ways God can bring people together. Ema and Rachel are now back in Africa, seeking to help impoverished people in Tanzania. If you want to learn more about that, click here. Ema agreed to answer some questions about himself and the SoCAM: K: W
In March 2017, I recorded a conversation we had about why us SoCAM staff members did a DTS. DTS has changed all of our lives in different ways. One way was of course to eventually lead us to the School of Cartooning and Animation for Missions. I'm glad that God led us all together to do this mission work. Have you done a DTS? Comment below on how it's affected your life! #Andrew #Dave #Yoojin #Kyla #StaffingtheSoCAM #CreateIntTaiwan #SoCAM #Interview
As I entered the gate for my final flight to Taiwan in March, 2016, I knew there was a chance I’d meet one of my fellow staff members: Andrew, whom I hadn't met before. I scanned the crowd. Nobody quite looked… American enough. But wait! Who was that, sitting at a bench and staring at me in a “should I know you?” kind of way? I did a few surreptitious double takes, then finally we approached each other and I asked, “…are you Andrew?” Andrew and I both staffed the 2016 SoCAM,
This year I ran the School of Cartooning and Animation for the first time, and Rachel was my first student. She had the challenge of being our only student in 2017, but she proved to be a valuable member of our team as we worked on an animation called "No More Tears," which we'll be releasing on the internet this winter. I will remember Rachel for her empathy towards underdogs, and her high level of motivation to make problem solving efficient and effective. The images shown
My friend Adriana was a wonderful influence in my life. She introduced several anime to me, the magic of Copic markers, and the joys of cosplay. More importantly, though, she has a heart to serve the Lord. She was - and is - a valuable friend of mine, and it was sheer pleasure to interview her. K: Where did you grow up? When did you decide you were an artist? A: I was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in various places in Oregon. I started drawing at the age of two and hav
Those of you who have been following the SoCAM on Facebook will know that recently we went to our target location to do the field assignment research for our annual animation project. I could go on and on about our various adventures (and misadventures!), such as scaling Poem mountain, or crawling through caves, or getting sneak peeks of traditional water puppet shows, but in the interest of being concise, I'll just give you the highlights. We went on this trip to record the

We are excited to announce that last week we finished editing the Marwari version of our evangelistic cartoon, "Coconuts!" The film is now in what we call "field test phase," where missionaries working in Rajasthan will be getting feedback from locals there. Now that the first version is complete, we can start on the other nine languages. This animated short film has a potential to reach an audience of fifty million people! #Animation #Rajasthan #SoCAM #News #English
