Brigada

If you are interested in what’s going on in global missions, consider checking out Brigada. Back in January 1995, a missionary named Doug Lucas started a simple email mailing list as a resource for “Great Commission Christians,” called Brigada Today. The weekly email highlighted missions opportunities, books, and other helpful resources for missions-minded Christians.

Since then, Brigada has grown to include several websites dedicated to helping those involved in frontier missions, with thousands of subscribers who read the weekly newsletter, along with many who access their website and Facebook page.

What’s in a Name?

Brigada takes its name from the Russian word for “brigade.” The Tatars of Crimea were forced off their land by Stalin in 1942, and then returned after the demise of the Soviet Union in the 1990s. Since their original homes were occupied, they had to rebuild entire communities and start from scratch. They formed into synergistic groups in order to rebuild more efficiently, and these brigadas became a symbol of how much can be accomplished when people work together.

Brigada’s vision is to “challenge and motivate evangelical Christians toward greater involvement in finishing the Task of global evangelism — to seek to inspire others to help in passing the baton of responsibility and initiative in world evangelism, to form a kind of ‘brigade’ so that, shoulder to shoulder, we can finish the Task that Jesus assigned us in Matthew 28:19-20.”

Expanding God’s Kingdom

Brigada grew out of an organization founded by Doug Lucas called Team Expansion. The newsletter and associated websites are currently maintained by Doug and Gail Coomer at the Team Expansion office, based in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Team Expansion’s goal is to complete the task of world evangelization through evangelism, church planting, and disciple making movements. To date, Team Expansion has sent more than a thousand workers to over seventy mission fields, including many creative-access locations.

“May God grant all of us wisdom, insight, and energy to keep on sharing hope and help to those who need it most! Thanks for being part of the Brigada family!”

Brigada has been a big help to Create’s ministries over the years by providing an effective promotional outlet for our schools. We always notice an uptick of inquiries during the week our submission is published. If you have a missions-related conference, training, book or resource and you want to get the word out, consider submitting it on their website. Submissions are free, but there is also an opportunity to donate to Brigada to help keep it running.

To all of the Brigada subscribers who have joined over the last 27 years, Doug says, “May God grant all of us wisdom, insight, and energy to keep on sharing hope and help to those who need it most! Thanks for being part of the Brigada family!”
