Those of you who have been following the SoCAM on Facebook will know that recently we went to our target location to do the field assignment research for our annual animation project. I could go on and on about our various adventures (and misadventures!), such as scaling Poem mountain, or crawling through caves, or getting sneak peeks of traditional water puppet shows, but in the interest of being concise, I'll just give you the highlights.
We went on this trip to record the gospel testimony of a local believer, which we will be animating from June until September, when our student Rachel will graduate! In addition to recording, we also collected art references, notes, music, etc, to make this animation as culturally relevant as possible.
Our outreach was nearly perfect, because the quality of the recording was excellent. We got a lot of good cultural exposure (eating, walking, sightseeing, drawing, talking, etc!) and are feeling pretty confident that we have a good foundation to spring off of, art-wise.
Another wonderful element was the encouragement we got from the local believers. They were utterly thrilled to work with us on this project. They enthusiastically provided insight, demonstrated different traditional ceremonies, and told us about their efforts to tell the good news to their friends, families and neighbours.
It is always humbling to partner with these wonderful brothers and sisters in the faith. They are the ones on the front lines, while we provide tools and support from back here in Taiwan.
Just think - you too could partner with us as we partner with them! We are all a body: when one member helps the other, the whole organism benefits. Here's how you can partner with us through prayer.
Please pray for the local believers as they work out their faith with fear and trembling. They are actively sharing the good news, despite opposition from people in power!
Please pray for us as we do our project this year. We want our artwork to carry our the testimony to our target people group. So, it has to be culturally relevant, beautiful, and done with divine intuition.
Thank you for your care and interest in the School of Cartooning and Animation for Missions!
